after some digging, it appears that the ky dem party is in the same disarray at the top as the natl dem party - no coordinated response, no immediate press release decrying corruption, conflicting statements from local pols - some saying that state needs to put this behind them, others saying gov is corrupt.
The state dem party in ky, just as in every state, needs to attack the repubs for corruption. Use local issues to link into what will (should) be a national issue.
In ky, i believe that dems held the governorship for years until fletcher. Now they lose it, but still think they are the majority party. They may control the legislature now, but in michigan, that's what we thought when engler first showed up.
If they dont capitalize on this, they are doomed, and probably deserve to be. The problem is that ky has a some house seats we need to get back majority status - so we need effective state parties to do that.

Gotta love the Republican irony. Time magazine runs a story a couple of weeks ago that the Cook Co. Republican Party offers a bounty of $10,000 for information leading to the indictment of Mayor Daley for abuses of the merit system in Chicago.
Obviously, Illinois Republicans wouldn't tolerate Fletcher's behavior if he were mayor or governor, right? Or, at bottom, is it really not about principle at all but only power, and which party is willing to play the dirtiest to get and keep power?
By contrast, look at the toothless, inept KY Democratic Party. Rabid? No. Bounty. Pleeez. Angry? Not really. Coordinated? Right... Confused, tongue-tied and politically impotent? Of course, as usual.

I think the state Democratic Party should issue a press release stating that some in the party "feel that Governor Fletcher's Amnesties were inconsiderate and ill-timed in light of General Stumbo's investigation." However, "some others felt like it was time to 'heal the state' and move forward." Still others "believed the Merit System is very confusing and that Governor Fletcher and his Republican friends should get the benefit of the doubt" Several members requested more time to think about it before having to make "such a big decision." And finally, "many within the State Democratic Party had no idea what Governor Fletcher was talking about tonight."
Maybe Jerry, Rocky and Jody, et al. could borrow Katie Stein's and Mary Lou's testicles, or at least have the dignity not to hide behind the only members of the party that seem to have a brain adjoined to a backbone.
